Resistance Welding Copper Alloys.
Westken manufactures & stocks a large variety of spot welding electrodes in its standard product range as well as manufacturing various tailor made electrodes to suit applications that are specific to client requirements.
Westken also stocks raw materials for the manufacture of resistance welding products.
Copper sizes normally held in stock range from Ø8mm to Ø305mm, 16mm² to 40mm² and Rect. / flat Bars in various sizes.
Concerning sizes that do not form part of our standard stock holding. We are willing to assist with your requirement and these sizes can possibly be obtained from the mills on request.
All resistance welding materials are imported from our foundry & mill located in Europe, it must be noted all purchases and orders are based on exchange rate and manufacturing lead times.
Material abbreviated information
Zirconium Copper (CuZr) Hardness (approx) 120 – 155 HV
This is a softer type welding copper that is used where conductivity (53 (92%)) is more important than mechanical strength. This copper when used in the manufacture of welding caps becomes harder due to cold working; unfortunately this copper tends to soften at comparatively low temperatures.
Chrome Zirconium Copper (CuCrZr) Hardness (approx) 160 – 180 HV
This is a slightly harder type welding copper that is used where conductivity (44 (75%)) is less important than mechanical strength. This copper when used in the manufacture of general purpose welding electrodes.
Cobalt Beryllium Copper (CuNiBe) Hardness (approx) 255 HV
Copper Alloy with a high hardness level and medium electrical conductivity (47%).
This alloy is mainly used in manufacture of electrode used on stainless steel, wire welding applications and in projection welding processes where very high welding pressures are called for. It is used in plastic injection moulds.
Tungsten Copper Hardness dependant on alloy composition and tungsten content varying from approx 145 HV to 235HV.
This copper alloy is a special purpose alloy used in spot/projection welding, spark eroding, and arc contacts. Normally the conductivity of this material is low 40% - 52% IACS dependant on tungsten content.
