Our Story

The West Kennett Corperation, or Westken, was founded in June 1984 to design, manufacture and supply resistance welding products.

At present Westken is probably one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of resistance welding products and consumables in Southern Africa being the only company manufacturing a complete range of capital resistance welding equipment. Westken manufactures spotwelding guns, hanging and machine transformers, pedestal welders, projection welders, seam welders and a complete range of consumables for the above equipment.

Westken is producing approximately 1000kg/1500kg Copper & Brass welding consumables each month. These consumables are being used by manufacturers in Southern Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and as far north as Kenya & Malawi.

Westken has designed and manufactured a full range of standard and special purpose resistance welding machines for use in South Africa.

Westken also manufactures “knock down” kits that we export to the United Kingdom, America and Australia for final assembly in these countries. The kits are sold either with all parts being supplied or supplied without timer/firing system, solenoids and filter lubricator sets. This allows the customer to select and fit his own timer/firing system and air equipment. Due to the kits being supplied in an un-assembled state the shipping costs, import duties and taxes are reduced.

Further to the above Westken markets our own “Westken” branded MIG, TIG and ARC welding machine from the small MIG machine 220volt 160amp right through to 380volt 450 amp MIG welders used in heavy industry.

Our range of welding control/timer systems include the Masterweld, Weldpak and Minipak microprocessor welding timers. We offer a full range of locally produced and imported consumables spares for the welding equipment.

Our company is situated in Rosslyn, Pretoria and is within short distance of BMW South Africa, Nissan Motor Corperation and Ford South Africa. The plants of Toyota (Durban), Mercedes-Benz (East London), VW and GM (Port Elizabeth) are all primary and secondary customers of Westken. Westken supplies products into Zimbabwe Motor manufacturers, Quest and Willowvale Motors.

At present we are represented in South Africa in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town.

Our plant which employs 30 personnel, is located on 3000sqm of prime industrial land. The factory floor space is 1600sqm. We have a fully equipped plant consisting of CNC and standard lathes and milling machines, a paint shop, and a fabrication shop.
